Combat Wings The Great Battles of World War II is produced by City Interactive and will be available for PC, XBox 360, PS3 and Wii. So it’s a truly multi platform release and it’s very good to see the Wii include, where all too often developers tend to target the Xbox and PlayStation consoles more.
A few release dates are touted around, the original ones being back in 2010, so obviously the games release has been pushed back as is typical of many games of late.
The Great Battles of World War II is not restricted to just one theatre of war. It will feature over 20 historically accurate missions, ranging from dogfighting in the skies over Europe to the Eastern front and the Pacific basin bombing runs.
In this simulator mission completion is not the only option, an arcade mode will be available if you just want to take to the skies and frag anything that moves.
Expect to see about 25 aircraft in the game, with players able to pilot accurately modelled British, American and Russian planes. Other positions on the plane can be played, such as the gunner in a heavy bomber.
Spitfires, Hurricanes and Lightning’s are all an option, watch out for the classic German Messerschmitt’s and Japanese Kate’s trying to put a premature end to your mission.
No actual gameplay footage yet in this trailer, but it gives a little appetiser.
Regional Release Information
Judging by the Amazon store dates we can expect to see Combat Wings The Great Battles of World War II in North America first with September the 13th being the date banded around. Europe looks like it will have to wait a little longer for the release, 28th of October being the date supplied at present.
More information to follow and any changes to the airplane simulator will be notified as we get them. Pre-order and further information links as always below.
